Wow! Heidi’s challenge at the Friday Mashup #183 is really, really cool.

If you have not tried it yet, this is the challenge for you!

It is called the Iron Off Emboss Technique. You heat emboss an image with white or clear powder, then sponge over the image. After this, use a medium heat iron and a piece of paper over the image to remove the embossed material leaving the image intact that was embossed. I was so impressed with it.

I was so excited to try the technique that I forgot to see what the “mash up” was with it. I picked my colors and went to town designing my card around the technique. THEN, I remembered to check the mashup. I was pleasantly surprised to see I chose colors similar to Heidi’s colors this week, we will just pretend my Baked Brown Sugar got burned and turned into Early Espresso…

When you first see this card, you might think  the background feathers are heat embossed with white embossing powder but no…that is the white panel peeking though after the embossing was removed with the paper and a medium heat iron. It was super clean and so smooth to the touch that I thought I could stamp the sentiment right over it with a solid look. However, there must be some “tooth” created from the sponged paper or some residue left that kept the sentiment image from being solid. I was not too upset since if it was actually still heat embossed, I don’t think the sentiment would have turned out as well as it did? I was pressed for time or I would have done it again. I was just so impressed how neat the embossing came off, nothing was going to get me frazzled….lol.
