SU Sweet Cupcake with Cupcake Cutouts Framelits

July 25, 2016

I saw a card by the talented UK Demonstrator Amanda Bates that set the sweet cupcake on a doily on a portrait z-fold card. I couldn’t resist coming up with one of my own cards using the SU Sweet Cupcake stamp set and coordinating Cupcake Cutouts framelits.

SU Sweet Cupcake Best Things z fold

A Z-fold card is simple to make. I decided to make my card a landscape A2 sized card so I started with a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of cardstock and scored it at 2 3/4″ and 5 1/2″ on the 11″ side. The band across the front is also scored this way. I used the Festive embossing folder on the back part of the card- cut to 4″ x 5 1/4″. I think it gave a great backdrop for the cupcake to pop- not too busy with DSP but just added texture. I think the landscape design allows the cupcake to fill in the white embossed space and not need any additional fill-ins on the front right DSP side of the card either. The DSP is cut to 4″ x 2 1/2″.

I chose to leave the middle panel blank and write on the back of the card on a white panel. It just looked cleaner to me and let all the other parts stand out. But, you could easily place another piece of DSP or another sentiment on a white panel on the middle part of the card.

You will notice the sentiment is stamped differently than it comes in the set. I did cut my stamp and stack the words on top of each other. When I alter a stamp this way, I am sure NOT to trim any edges- I just cut through cleanly so it can easily go back together like puzzle pieces fit together.

Here is another use of the sentiments and thinlit words:

The Sweet Cupcake stamp set comes with the icing and cupcake liner labeled 1, 2, and 3  for realistic 3-step stamping. It is meant to stamp in that order #1, #2, and then #3.

However, I stamp in reverse, that is, I stamp #3, #2, and then #1.  The icing was stamped on Pink Pirouette cardstock using Pink Pirouette ink for stamp #3, then Blushing Bride ink for stamp #2, and then Melon Mambo ink for stamp #1. The cupcake liner is stamped on Sahara Sand cardstock using Crumb Cake ink on stamp # 3, then Sahara Sand ink for stamp #2, and then Tip Top Taupe for stamp #1. I hope that makes sense to you:)
