Stampin’ Up! Seaside Notions Bokeh Technique Video Tutorial

June 17, 2020

Summer is almost “officially” here! I used the Bokeh Technique to create this fun summer card.

In photography, bokeh is an aesthetic quality produced with a blurry, out-of-focus background with a clear and focused focal image in a photo.  I always seem to see the technique used in photos around Christmas time with lights on the trees twinkling in the background of a photo. In stamping, you can easily create a bokeh effect. Here is a video showing how I did it!

Great variety of sentiments in this Stampin’ Up! Seaside Notions stamp set:)

*Note: I used Retired Glimmer Enamel Dots on this card but you can add other coordinating products:)

Measurements:
Coastal Cabana Card Base: 4-1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5-1/2″ on 11″ side
Highland Heather Border on outside: 4″ x 5-1/4″ , sentiment border strip: 1-1/4″ x 3-3/4″
Whisper White Outside: 3-3/4″ x 5″, Inside: 4″ x 5-1/4″, Sentiment: 1″ x 3-3/4″, scraps for shell and seahorse

Here is the first bokeh technique I ever did with chalk inks…over five years ago!

Stampin’ Up! Mountain Air Bundle

June 2020

I finally used my Stampin’ Up! Mountain Air Bundle that carried over as a bundle in the NEW 2020-2021 catalog! I did a clean and simple card for a test run…

The Card base is the NEW Misty Moonlight. Seaside Spray looks so beautiful with it, don’t you think? Going with more subtle colors, I chose Pear Pizzazz as my green and Very Vanilla as my neutral. I have not used Very Vanilla in a long time!  My resident art critic said I should have had some water on the lower part of the card. I said…what a great idea- water, trees and mountains! Will have to play around some more with that idea!

Sometimes, I just need to get my hands on the stamps and dies to create my initial card, and then I get inspiration to try other designs. Need some more ideas…check out the Stampin’ Up! Home Office Video. George did a fine job of showing this versatile REVERSIBLE stamp set!

You can find the sentiment in the Blossom of Blooms  stamp set. Remember this card using Misty Moonlight and Pear Pizzazz? The colors go so well together!

I will let you in on a little secret I figured out AFTER I made the video…you can also emboss a 3-3/4″ x 5″ Very Vanilla panel and adhere to the 4″ x 5-1/4″ Garden Green panel. Stamp and die cut two sunflowers and cut in half with scissors and place on the upper or left side of the card! But…hey, we got to spend a few minutes together today!
