Friday Mashup 166

It’s Friday, kiddos! Time for another fun challenge at the Friday Mashup # 166. Holly is asking us to get out some sequins. I was excited to use my new SU sequins in the 2013-15 In Colors. I was surprised how these little embellishments can really pack a big punch.

 Create a project using “Sequins.”
Create  a “Hello or Hi project.”
or
Mash it Up! and create a “Hello project with Sequins.”
We can’t wait to see your project this week- make sure to check out the Design Team inspiration cards!
I have been seeing some really pretty cards with sequins and collage style stamping. So, I gave it a whirl on this card using the 2013-15 In Colors.
The soft Flower Shop bloom reminds me of SUMMER so I thought I would share it AGAIN with the Stampin’ Up Only Challenge site this week.

SU Flower Shop Blues

Well, kids- there are two color challenges going on this week that are Red, White, and Blue. And, I finished a card today for The Paper Players # 199 and went to grab the badge and OOPS- I used the wrong blue- I used SU Pacific Point instead of Night of Navy! It was not even the blue for the other challenge…LOL!

Oh well, it’s all about the journey not the destination, right?

Another little side note….I had a very dear stamping friend email me last night and ask if I ever get frustrated when trying to design a card. She felt like she always ended up copying a card she sees on the internet. I reassured her that everyone does that,  and I look for inspiration everywhere- looking at 100s of cards sometimes to get an idea to jumpstart my creativity.

I told her that my Stampin” Success Demonstrator magazine emphasizes and encourages CASEing cards. It was funny that my magazine came today reiterating that very sentiment.  As I wrote her back it also reminded me to enjoy making the card even when I am lacking mojo. For example, this simple card came to be after I used up all my mojo planning for my Product Class.  I was stumped with what I wanted to do with the colors but knew I could just rely on some basic principles like layering and popping an image with a dimensional to put together a card. I ended up being happy instead of frustrating myself because I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do.

SU Flower Shop with Petite Petals Flower Pot Card

At first, I was really wondering how to incorporate ALL of the colors Avery picked for our shaped card challenge at the Friday Mashup #155 this week.

fm155

Create a project using the Colors ” Pool Party, Daffodil Delight, Calypso Coral, Wisteria Wonder & Wild Wasabi”.

Create a ” Shaped card”.

Or Mash it up and create a “Shaped Card using the above Colors”.

After a few days of pondering, I thought of a flower pot card. I had not made one since my daughter’s 15th birthday, and she is 21 now and getting ready to graduate college in one month! With my craft hoarding tendencies, I actually found the card and got to work on a new one with the fabulous SU Flower Shop and Petite Petals with their coordinating punches. I used the Bird Builder Punch for the leaves.

SU Flower Shop with Lots of Thanks

I could not (emboss) resist combining LeAnne’s color challenge at The Paper Players  # 162  this week and  Jen B.’s sketch challenge at Freshly Made Sketches # 103.  I have not done this technique for many, many years and forgot what a great effect it has on a card. It is hard to believe the black panel was once white! I sponged on SU Pool Party and Rich Razzleberry in a random pattern  covering my Whisper White cardstock, stamped the flowers in Versamark Watermark ink, and clear embossed them. I then sponged black ink over the panel turning the colorful background black and allowing the colors to show through only on the clear embossed flowers. I also liked how the black sentiment stood out on the Rich Razzleberry.  And, yum…I love those Candy Dots.
