SU Butterfly Basics Tunnel Card

Here is a fun fold card called a Tunnel Card. Google it and see how many diffferent names and designs you see! Here is what I came up with using the SU Butterfly Basics stamp set and the Fluttering embossing folder:

Here is a top view showing the tunnel fold.

First, cut a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock  to 5 1/4″ x 8 1/4″ and score it at 4 1/8″. Center a framelit over the score line horizontally and vertically and die cut an opening. This is the part of the card above with the Sending Wishes Your Way stamped on the left.

Then lay the die cut cardstock  over a 5″ x 8″ piece of Very Vanilla cardstock to know where to stamp the innermost part of the card. I came up with the sentiment fitting at 2 1/2″ down from the top and to the right of the flower and 4″ at the middle. You can eyeball the middle at 4″ or mark it with a pencil. I actually lined it up with my grid paper and just stamped at 4″ which is the middle. I lined up a ruler along the 4″ middle line and stamped the sentiment at the 2 1/2″ mark down from the top. You may come up with different measurements if you use a different die or stamp.

For this particular card, stamp BEFORE you fold it in the middle. It will not stamp fully on a score line. After you stamp it and it is dry, fold it over to make the middle score. This is very easy with the thinner Very Vanilla or Whisper White cardstock.

You adhere the stamped 5″ x 8″ to the card base (above) one side at a time to the card base. Take the folded stamped panel and adhere one side to the card base with an equal border on the top, bottom and side with the middle folds touching.  Fold it over and place adhesive on the folded over piece. Close the card and it will adhere to the card base. *This keeps the stamped cardstock panel from buckling.

To create the “tunnel,” fold the die cut opening on on the 4 1/8″ score line as shown below. You then fold each side in toward the folded score line which will form the four parts. You lay this over the stamped panel one side at a time like you did with the stamped panel. This panel is slightly larger than the stamped panel. You do not line it up flush with the other panel already adhered to the card.  You just adhere it with an equal border on the top, bottom, and sides.
