I got a card from my friend, Sarah, who used the butterfly
from the Springtime Impressions Thinlits.
It was so clean and eye-catching that I had to CASE it!
I loved how she used the NEW Big Shot Embossing Mats to create the bottom of the card.
The first thing I did was cut out the butterfly, then I did the bottom embossing as follows:
You just place the die on the cardstock, secure it in place with some Washi tape around the back -see photo below.
Now to emboss, use this sandwich from BOTTOM to TOP-
- 1. Big Shot platform,
2. Acrylic Plate,
3. Cardstock with die in place face down- see photo below,
4. Gray embossing mat,
5. White embossing plate
TIP: Always keep one CLEAN acrylic plate for times you have to put the “good” side down when using the Big Shot. It keeps the cardstock from getting the acrylic pad scratches etched in it. Has that ever happened to you? With this mat embossing, it probably won’t etch your cardstock but when CUTTING with the cardstock good side face down, it can. You can protect the cardstock by putting a piece of copy paper down first if your acrylic plate is heavily used to hopefully keep those etched marks off your pretty card:)
Here is a comparison of the how deep the impression is with the two embossing mats-
the thicker gray one embossed this way:

I bet we agree that the thicker mat gave a nicer defined impression
but I can think of other times where a
less deep subtle impressed area would look nice, maybe on a larger background surface-
like the whole corner floral die that is in this bundle?
