Chalkboard Technique

This week at The Friday Mashup #101, the challenge is  to use the Chalkboard Technique. I have never done this before- it’s a technique that I think is a bit challenging. You want messy but not too messy, it’s kind of like you want a messy but clean look at the same time. I used a few products to get this look- SU Craft White ink for the sentiment , SU white chalk for the smudges, and a Prismacolor white pencil for a handwritten A+. Of course, I took this challenge somewhat literal and made a “teacher” card! I am not even sure if schools use chalkboards anymore with whiteboards being the preferred medium? I was excited to use an item in my stash that has NEVER been used- a little Provocraft sizzlet that came with my CuttleBug years ago;) And, I have had this black lined notebook for about 10 years when Gellyz pens were all the rage…LOL. I seriously never part with anything…

Since I framed the little cut-outs of the books/apple, I decided to play at the Less is More #111 FRAME IT Challenge.

Out of this World….

When I saw this week’s CASology Cue Word # 35 EXTRATERRESTRIAL,  I could not get out of my mind the Outer Space shows of the 1960’s like My Favorite Martian and Lost in Space.  There was such a fascination with Space back then. This, in turn, made me think of the style of decorating from the 60’s- now referred to as RETRO. And so, while everyone has cool aliens and spaceships for this challenge, I have this:

One thing about this post that is definitely out of this world…the price of this stamp set  with a lot of images retailed for $14.50, and I picked it up for $1 at a craft boutique end of year inventory sale! I used the retro colors from Colour Q #180 .

Waste Not…Want Not

I never like to waste things…my husband says I am just cheap- I call it frugal. I save every little scrap of paper when I am crafting. When I was creating the card in my last post, the image did not fit in my circle but I knew it would not go to waste…I used it again for another  MUSE Card Club # 8 entry. Therese Calvird’s  card inspired me to use DSP as the card base, a dark sentiment that stood out, and framing a focal point within a negative cut out that reveals the DSP underneath. This is the very first time I ever covered an entire card front with DSP;)

SU Vintage Verses- SAB 2013

There’s still time left to place a $50 order and get a free Sale-a-Bration 2013 item!  Up until March 22, one of the 19 free items you can pick is SU Vintage Verses. I used this set with the flower from SU Oh, Hello and SU Just Thinking single stamp, both in the Spring Catalog 2013.  I was inspired by  the circle focal image of a flower on Therese Calvird’s card at the Muse Card Club #8 . The colors from The Paper Players #136 and the sketch from Fab Friday # 13  also helped me design this pretty note card:

SU The Open Sea

I roughed up SU’s The Open Sea stamp set  with my SU Distressing Tool for my submission to Freshly Made Sketches #77 this week.

FMS Final 77-001-1

I stamped the inside of the card  with the anchor from this set and stamped the world stamp on the envelope to finish it off. Every stamp was used in the set- I love when that happens!
