My fellow Design Team members at the Friday Mashup have been coming up with some neat challenges, and this week is no different. For Challenge #182, Holly has an interesting one for us called the Galaxy technique.
Make sure to check out the tutorials- they were great.
- Create a project with the “Galaxy Technique.” Links to technique HERE &HERE.
- Create a project for “A Friend.”
- or Mash it Up! and create a “Project for a friend using the Galaxy Technique.”
I am always a bit out of my comfort zone with watercoloring and such but I found this to be fun. One thing I can say that I gleaned from the tutorial was to wet but not oversaturate my watercolor paper before adding some watered down reinkers to it with a paintbrush or aqua painter.
I started with black reinker then filled in the blank spaces in a tiny amount of Crushed Curry, Island Indigo, and I think Wisteria Wonder reinker- it may have been Elegant Eggplant? After I sped up the drying with my heat gun, I “flicked” some white acrylic paint on with a paint brush. I liked it but did not want to cover my whole card with it so I cut out an oval from Island Indigo and adhered it to the galaxy panel. I then inlaid the oval with a smaller oval of Elegant Eggplant cardstock.
I heat embossed in white the SU Pictogram Punches stamp set with its sentiment and stars that I thought was a neat match with the galaxy theme. It was super easy to punch out the stars with the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack.
I was tempted to use Heat and Stick powder with Iridescent Ice over the galaxy but thought it might be too much. I also did not want to re-do my galaxy if it did not look like what I wanted! Instead I literally covered the whole panel in Clear Wink of Stella pen. Below is a pick that actually magnifies the effect- it is much more subtle in person. I looks really cool!
I sure hope you play along this week- I think you will find it really fun!
Hop on over to the Friday Mashup and check out what the girls created for inspiration…
